Michael R. Martin
Assistant Director, Defense Technology Security Administration
Michael R. Martin, is currently serving as the Assistant Director, Export Control Directorate, Defense Technology Security Administration, Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy. In this capacity he manages a staff of 75 policy analysts, engineers, and licensing officers responsible for developing and implementing DoD technology security and foreign disclosure policies for international transfers of defense-related goods, services, information, and technology.
Mr. Martin assumed duties as Assistant Director in March 2020. Prior to this assignment, he was the Deputy Director for the Analysis Support Office with the Air Force. In this capacity, he led and assisted an organization of policy and technical analysts on various topics for senior DoD leaders in a variety of military and technical focus areas requiring interagency awareness and collaboration. Prior to this assignment, Mr. Martin retired as a Commander in the U.S. Navy in 2008, having spent 20 years as an EA-6B Electronic Countermeasures Officer aboard various carriers with extensive experience in Operations DESERT STORM and DESERT FOX. He also had multiple tours on executive staffs in Washington D.C., Germany, Rome and Naples, Italy.
Mr. Martin graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. In 1997 he was awarded a Master of Business Administration degree from George Mason University.
