DTSA develops, operates, and maintains private network systems supporting communications and coordination on the subjects of international visits, foreign disclosure, export licensing, and international arms cooperation.

The systems support approximately over 200 external organization locations throughout the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), the Joint Staff, military components, defense agencies, and other U.S. Government organizations including the Departments of State, Commerce, Energy, and Homeland Security. Nearly 100 foreign embassies in Washington, DC, access DTSA's Foreign Visits System to process visits to U.S. military facilities. Additionally, these IT systems support processing industry’s export license requests, patent reviews, technology sharing policy discussions, and other collaborative policy and technology controls requirements.
